Egypt officially registered on Wednesday Russia's "Sputnik V" and "AstraZeneca / AZD 1222" anti-coronavirus vaccines for emergency use, according to the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA).
In press statements to 'Akhbar El-Youm" newspaper, Dr. Mahmoud Yassine, head of EDA said that this decision has been taken after the two vaccines went through the necessary evaluation processes in the EDA departments and laboratories, in accordance with the global and local rules in place to ensure the safety, quality, and effectiveness of the vaccine.
He added that Egypt has so far registered four COVID-19 vaccines for emergency use.
On Tuesday, Egypt reported 633 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total infection tally to 179,407 since the outbreak began in February.
In its daily briefing, the health ministry also reported 39 new deaths, bringing the total number of deaths from the virus to 10,443.
The statement said that 500 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 138,683.
