Egypt and France have signed a roadmap for cooperation in constructing Cairo Metro Line 6, marking a significant step in expanding the capital’s transportation infrastructure. The new line is planned to begin in New Maadi and end in El-Khosous, according to previous announcements by the National Authority for Tunnels.
The signing ceremony took place at the Ittihadiya Presidential Palace in Cairo, in the presence of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and French President Emmanuel Macron, who is currently on an official visit to Egypt.
The agreement was signed by Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel El-Wazir, and French Minister of Finance, Bruno Le Maire.
In addition to the metro agreement, the two countries signed a number of other cooperation documents, including agreements and memoranda of understanding in the fields of health and transportation. El-Sisi and Macron also signed a joint declaration to elevate bilateral relations to the level of a strategic partnership.
Among other key announcements, Egypt and France signed a declaration of intent to cooperate in higher education, as well as an agreement to establish and develop the Gustave Roussy Center for Cancer Treatment in Cairo.
President Macron announced that the French Development Agency (AFD) will sign agreements with Egypt for grants and loans worth 260 million euros. The funding will support several sectors including energy, transportation, water, and sanitation.
This visit marks a significant deepening of Egypt-France relations and paves the way for enhanced cooperation in critical infrastructure and development projects.
