Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity witnessed the signing of several joint agreements with the French side in the fields of electricity and renewable energy, on the sidelines of French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Egypt.
The minister along with Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and Rémy Rioux, chief executive of the French Development Agency signed the financing agreement for the Alexandria Regional Control Center project, in the presence of Angelina Eichhorst, Ambassador of the European Union to Egypt.
Mahmoud Esmat also witnessed the signing, along with Éric Lombard, French Minister of Economy, Finance, Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, of a contract for the construction and implementation of the Sharm El-Sheikh Electric Control and Distribution Center, which is being implemented by Schneider Electric.
He also witnessed the signing of the agreement for the implementation of the Alexandria Regional Control Center project.
In a related context, the also witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement to develop a green ammonia production project in the Red Sea between the New and Renewable Energy Authority, EDF Renewables, ZeroWest, and the Red Sea Ports Authority.
Esmat praised the deep relations, cooperation, and partnership between Egypt and France in various fields, stressing that the signed agreements represent a continuation of joint work and the implementation of sustainable projects to achieve sustainable development goals, increase the contribution of renewable energy to the energy mix, within the framework of the national energy strategy, and improve energy efficiency across all sectors.
He expressed his keenness to cooperate with the French side and to attract more French companies to invest in Egypt, in light of the existing cooperation between the two countries in many fields, including clean energy, electricity grid development, green hydrogen, and the participation of French companies in the Egyptian energy market.
He pointed to the close cooperation between the government and the French Development Agency (AFD), which has spanned many years and played a vital role in supporting sustainable development efforts, strengthening strategic sectors, and driving economic growth, in line with Egypt's Vision 2030.
