Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his French counterpart Jean-Noel Barrot discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and coordinate efforts to contain escalating tensions in the Middle East, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

The talks came amid growing regional instability and followed the recent elevation of relations between Egypt and France to a strategic partnership.

Both ministers expressed interest in expanding cooperation across multiple sectors, particularly in trade and investment.

The discussions also covered regional developments, including ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran.

Abdelatty affairmed the importance of supporting diplomatic negotiations as the primary path toward de-escalation and ending the conflict, while underscoring the need to protect freedom of navigation and address the security concerns of Gulf Arab states.

He also reiterated Egypt’s condemnation of what he described as unjustified attacks on Arab countries.

On the Palestinian issue, the two ministers exchanged views on efforts related to Gaza, with Abdelatty calling for implementation of the first phase of the U.S. plan and progress toward a second phase. He also stressed the importance of launching the work of a proposed national committee for Gaza administration and rapidly deploying an international stabilization force in the enclave.

The talks further addressed developments in Lebanon, where Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Lebanese sovereignty and stability, condemning repeated Israeli violations and stressing the importance of preserving the country’s territorial integrity and strengthening state institutions.

In turn, Barrot praised the development of Egyptian-French relations and commended Cairo’s role in efforts to contain regional escalation.

The two ministers agreed to maintain close coordination and continue joint efforts aimed at supporting regional security and stability.
