Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel El-Wazir, held talks with French Ambassador to Cairo Eric Chevallier on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the transport sector, with a particular focus on vocational training, workforce development, and the localization of railway manufacturing.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed ways to prepare highly skilled technical cadres in line with the latest international standards to support the operation and maintenance of metro systems, light rail transit (LRT), and national railways. The discussions underscored the role of human capital development in enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of Egypt’s urban transport network.

The talks also covered progress in joint projects between Egypt and France, including cooperation with French company Alstom. The partners are working on establishing an industrial complex in Borg El Arab City to manufacture electrical systems and railway components, as well as a factory to produce rolling stock for metro, tram, high-speed rail, and monorail projects.

El-Wazir and Chevallier further reviewed developments related to Cairo Metro Line 6, which will extend from El-Khosous to New Maadi. Plans to integrate the line with Egypt’s high-speed rail network and the East Nile monorail were discussed, alongside mechanisms to accelerate project implementation in line with agreed timelines.

In turn, the French ambassador reaffirmed France’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Egypt in transport and railway infrastructure, vocational training, and human resource development, noting that such collaboration supports the successful delivery of joint projects and strengthens the economic partnership between the two countries.
