The Egyptian and French naval forces are carrying out transient maritime drills in the Mediterranean's northern fleet zone.

The drills come within the Armed Forces General Command plan to enhance military cooperation with all sisterly and friendly nations.

The drills included maritime activities such as how to apply sailing formations, counter hostile targets and repel non-traditional threats, as well as carrying out inspection of vessels.

Egypt regularly holds military exercises with Arab, African and Western countries to boost military collaboration and exchange expertise.

The drill also aims to support cooperation between the Egyptian and French naval forces, provide knowledge on the latest naval combat techniques and hone skills of the participating forces.

The training also included planning to carry out combat activities in the sea and other activities including the use of helicopters to support navy formations in different missions.

Egyptian and French naval forces previously implemented a naval exercise at an Egyptian Red Sea naval base in December 2018 with the participation of the French warship “COURBET” and several Egyptian naval units.

The naval forces also implemented a scenario to counter threats against maritime security, including terrorist acts, protecting an important cargo ship and exercising the right to visit and inspect suspicious ships.
