Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met on Monday with Jean Arnault, the personal envoy of the UN Secretary-General, during the latter’s regional tour, as Cairo underscored its role in efforts to ease tensions and support stability in the Middle East.
According to the Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tamim Khalaf, Abdelatty congratulated Arnault on his appointment and affirmed Egypt’s readiness to work jointly to reduce tensions and promote security and prosperity.
The discussions also covered Egypt’s mediation efforts between the United States and Iran, aimed at reaching understandings that could pave the way for a ceasefire and wider regional stability.
Abdelatty warned that the ongoing tensions could disrupt global trade, food security, energy supplies and freedom of navigation, stressing the need for an urgent end to hostilities.
He also affirmed support for a second round of U.S.–Iran talks to help consolidate any ceasefire arrangements, saying dialogue remained the only viable path to resolving disputes.
Arnault, in turn, commended Egypt’s diplomatic role and reiterated the United Nations’ backing for Cairo’s efforts to restore peace and stability. Both sides agreed to maintain close coordination and consultations on developments affecting regional security.
