Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a phone call on Friday, with his Greek counterpart Giorgos Gerapetritis to discuss ways of strengthening bilateral relations and exchanging views on recent regional developments.

According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Abdelatty stressed the deep-rooted historical ties between Egypt and Greece, highlighting the qualitative advancement in relations following the elevation of bilateral ties to a strategic partnership level.

The minister expressed Cairo’s aspiration to further expand economic, trade, and investment cooperation, as well as broaden collaboration into new sectors. He also praised Greece’s support for Egypt within various European Union institutions.

The two ministers discussed developments in the Gaza Strip, where Abdelatty stressed the importance of accelerating the implementation of the second phase of the US peace proposal and providing full support to the proposed national committee for Gaza administration.

He also underscored the need to deploy an international stabilization force to ensure adherence to the ceasefire agreement, describing it as a necessary step toward enabling early recovery and reconstruction efforts.

Abdelatty further called for increasing the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza amid the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the territory.

Regarding broader regional developments, the Egyptian foreign minister reaffirmed Egypt’s consistent stance supporting diplomatic solutions and continuing negotiations between the United States and Iran, emphasizing the importance of avoiding military escalation.

He stressed that unresolved disputes in the Iranian nuclear file should be addressed through diplomatic channels rather than military options, in order to preserve regional and international stability.

Both ministers agreed on the importance of continuing coordination and consultation within the framework of the strategic relations between Egypt and Greece and supporting all efforts aimed at de-escalation in the region, reaffirming that diplomatic solutions remain the only path to avoiding further instability.
