On the sidelines of his visit to Italy for the Rome MED Dialogues, Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdelatty met with Qu Dongyu, the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), on Monday.
During the meeting, Abdelatty emphasized the alarming global hunger rates, the decline in humanitarian funding, and the ongoing crises in the Middle East and Africa, which necessitate collaborative efforts among UN organizations to support the populations in these regions.
The minister praised the strategic partnership between Egypt and the FAO, highlighting Egypt's commitment to achieving food security.
The Foreign Minister also commended the FAO and other UN agencies for their provision of humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip, Sudan, and Yemen, despite the inherent risks.
He also pointed out the difficulties faced by Egypt in delivering aid to Gaza due to Israeli actions that exploit hunger as a means of pressure against the Palestinian people.
