Egypt is advancing plans with Nokia to establish a regional center for technical support and operational services, in a move designed to position the country as a key exporter of digital and telecommunications services across the Middle East and Africa.

The discussions brought together Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology and Finland’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Trade, alongside Nokia’s regional leadership, on the sidelines of an official visit by Finland’s president to Cairo.

At the heart of the talks is a proposed integrated hub that would leverage Egypt’s geographic location and expanding digital infrastructure to support Nokia’s operations and serve regional markets.

The initiative comes as demand accelerates for network management services and digital solutions, driven by the rapid rollout of 5G technologies and the expansion of cloud computing.

Officials say the project aligns with Egypt’s broader strategy to enhance the competitiveness of its telecom sector and attract global technology investments.

Egyptian authorities emphasized that the growing presence of multinational tech firms supports the country’s ambition to become a regional center for cross-border digital services.

For its part, Nokia described Egypt as a strategic axis for its regional operations, citing a skilled workforce and improving digital capabilities as key factors underpinning its expansion plans.

The potential hub builds on an earlier agreement signed in 2024 between ITIDA, Telecom Egypt, and Nokia to establish a center of excellence for IP network services.

That initiative aims to export services to around 60 countries in its initial phase, supporting Egypt’s fast-growing digital exports sector, which has reached approximately $6.2 billion, according to official figures.

If finalized, the new center would mark a significant step in Egypt’s efforts to cement its role as a regional digital hub, capitalizing on its strategic location between continents and its ongoing investments in infrastructure.
