CAIRO, Nov. 14 (SEE)- Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Tuesday to express deep concern over escalations in Gaza and the resulting deaths and injuries.

Egypt warned of the dangerously negative consequences of continuing the vicious cycle of escalation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. The statement re-demanded Israel to immediately end all forms of military actions.

"There is a need to eradicate violence and escalation to immediately regain calmness," the statement read.

Palestinian groups announced Tuesday an Egypt-sponsored ceasefire in the Gaza Strip after a flare-up with Israel that put the enclave on the brink of war.

The factions, including Hamas, issued a joint statement saying they would abide by the ceasefire as long as Israel did the same.

"Egypt's efforts have been able to achieve a ceasefire between the resistance and the Zionist enemy," the statement by the Gaza groups said.

On the other hand, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office and the military had not commented on the announcement.

However, Israel's hardline defense minister, Avigdor Lieberman, issued a statement saying he did not support stopping the strikes.

The violent escalation between Israel and Palestinians in Gaza was the worst since a 2014 war.
