Export Council for Building Materials, Refractories and Metallurgy Industries (ECBM) revealed that the value of the sector's exports to Sudan increased by 87% to record $16 million in January, compared to $9 million, year-on-year.
ECBM’s monthly report indicated that Sudan acquired 3.6% of the total value of Egypt's exports of building materials and Metallurgy Industries in January.
The growth in the value of the sector’s exports to Sudan was attributed to the growth in exports of some sub-sectors and others that did not achieve export values last year.
According to data, Egypt's exports of copper and its products to Sudan amounted to about $3.456 million. Exports of mineral materials stood at $72,000, while exports of insulating materials recorded about $ 71,000.
Cement exports to the Sudanese market jumped by 1612% to record $ 2.846 million in January 2021, compared to $ 166,000 during the same month of 2020. Marble and granite exports also jumped by 413% to $742,000 against $145,000, year-on-year.
Egypt's exports of sanitary ware increased by 255% to record $386,000 against $104,000 in January 2020. Aluminum and its products exports increased by 188% to reach $3.316 million against $1.153 million.
Also, Exports of bridges and oil tanks rose by 25% to reach $1.079 million compared to $863,000.
However, Egyptian iron exports to the Sudanese market dropped 40% to about $1.482 million in January compared to $2.459 million year-on-year.
Glass products exports also decreased by 36% to $1.867 million compared to $2.906 million, while ceramics dropped by 16% to record $497,000 compared to $587,000, year-on-year.
