Egypt Exports 150,000 m³ of LNG to Canada in New Shipment

Egypt exported a new shipment of liquefied natural gas from its Idku liquefaction complex on the Mediterranean coast, sending around 150,000 cubic metres of LNG to Canada on behalf of France’s TotalEnergies, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said.

The cargo was loaded aboard the LNG Endeavour tanker and departed Idku this week, marking another step in Cairo’s strategy to revive LNG exports while encouraging foreign partners to step up investment in domestic gas production.

The ministry said LNG exports are being scheduled in line with a broader strategy aimed at incentivising international partners to inject additional capital into Egypt’s upstream gas sector, boosting output and generating added economic value. The policy also supports Egypt’s long-term ambition to strengthen its role as a regional hub for gas trading and distribution.

Allowing export flexibility, officials argue, improves the commercial attractiveness of Egypt’s gas sector at a time when the country is seeking to offset natural production declines and balance domestic demand with export opportunities.

A senior Egyptian official told CNN Business that the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) has already begun loading the first LNG cargoes of 2026, including a shipment destined for Shell, one of the largest foreign operators in Egypt’s gas sector.

The official said the LNG Endeavour arrived at the Idku terminal earlier this week to lift an Egyptian LNG cargo for export, underscoring the gradual resumption of outbound shipments after periods of fluctuating export activity.
