Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a phone call on Sunday with the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas to discuss regional developments, including ongoing US-Iran negotiations, according to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tamim Khallaf said the two sides exchanged views on the latest developments in the region and reviewed diplomatic efforts aimed at containing tensions.

Abdelatty briefed the EU official on Egypt’s continued efforts, in coordination with regional partners, to calm escalating tensions and reduce the risk of further regional deterioration.

He affirmed the importance of maintaining the diplomatic track and prioritising dialogue, emphasising that such efforts are essential to safeguarding the security and stability of regional states and ensuring freedom of international navigation.

In turn, Kallas praised Egypt’s role in supporting de-escalation efforts, expressing the European Union’s appreciation for Cairo’s diplomatic engagement and her interest in maintaining close coordination and consultation with Egypt on regional issues.

The call comes amid heightened regional sensitivities linked to US-Iran negotiations and broader security dynamics across the Middle East.
