Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration, Badr Abd El-Atty, recently met with Manfred Weber, the head of the European People’s Party Group in the European Parliament, to discuss the progress of Egypt-European Union relations following the recent elevation of their partnership to a comprehensive strategic level.
According to a statement by the spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, Minister Abd El-Atty emphasized the positive trajectory of Egypt-EU relations, highlighting the momentum gained after the European Commission President’s visit to Cairo in March, where both parties announced the formal enhancement of their partnership.
Abd El-Atty reiterated Egypt's commitment to fully realizing this partnership and welcomed the European People's Party Group’s support in strengthening joint cooperation.
He also stressed Egypt’s determination to advance its economic reform agenda, despite the regional and global challenges affecting neighboring countries, including Egypt.
In that connection, Abd El-Atty noted that these challenges have not deterred the Egyptian government from pursuing its ambitious development plans.
The discussions also addressed Egypt-EU cooperation on migration issues, emphasizing a comprehensive approach that links migration with development and tackles the root causes of irregular migration.
Also in this regard, Abd El-Atty highlighted Egypt's achievements in reducing illegal migration to Europe and the ongoing challenges in maintaining these efforts.
Additionally, he spoke about Egypt’s comprehensive strategy to combat terrorism, focusing on the ideological aspects and emphasizing the need to address the economic, social, and ideological factors that contribute to terrorism.
