Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a telephone conversation on Friday with Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman Saleh to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and coordinating positions on regional developments, underscoring the growing strategic partnership between Cairo and Asmara.

According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, the two ministers reviewed avenues for expanding cooperation across political and economic sectors while exchanging views on key regional issues of mutual concern, particularly developments in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea.

During the call, Abdelatty welcomed what he described as the growing momentum in Egyptian-Eritrean relations, highlighting the outcomes of Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki's recent visit to Egypt as an important milestone that has helped deepen cooperation between the two countries across multiple fields.

The Egyptian foreign minister reaffirmed Cairo's commitment to further strengthening economic ties by increasing bilateral trade, encouraging joint investment projects, and supporting greater participation by Egyptian private-sector companies in the Eritrean market.

Abdelatty also reiterated Egypt's full support for Eritrea's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national unity. He stressed that the security and governance of the Red Sea remain the exclusive responsibility of its littoral states, emphasizing the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries bordering the strategic waterway.

The ministers also exchanged assessments of the evolving situation in the Horn of Africa, where Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's support for preserving national state institutions and safeguarding the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of countries across the region.

He further stressed Egypt's rejection of unilateral actions that could undermine state sovereignty or threaten regional stability, reaffirming Cairo's commitment to dialogue, cooperation, and collective efforts aimed at promoting security and stability throughout the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region.
