Egypt Ensures Disinfection, Sterilization Operations at Airports, Aircraft

In continuation of the implementation of the precautionary preventive plan measures set by the Egyptian government to confront the novel coronavirus, the Minister of Civil Aviation Pilot Mohamed Manar, directed to intensify efforts in Egyptian airports and on board aircraft by increasing disinfection and sterilization operations for airports and public facilities.

Manar also called for the safe disposal of waste in accordance with instructions issued by the Ministry of Health and Population, and in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO) on a daily and regular basis.

Sterilization operations at the Plan

The Egyptian airports, in cooperation with the preventive medicine teams of the Ministry of Health and Population, are intensifying the procedures and operations of cleansing and sterilization significantly, including entry and exit corridors, travel and arrival halls, passport counters, baggage belts, luggage transport vehicles, waiting areas for passengers, recipients, depositors, and toilets.

On its part, the National Aviation Company of Egypt sterilizes its aircraft in cooperation with the preventive medicine teams of EgyptAir, which included the cockpit, passenger compartment, corridors, seats, restrooms and plane stores, in addition to the aircraft body from abroad as a precautionary and preventive measure to limit the spread of the coronavirus.

Manar stated that the Egyptian airports have taken all health and preventive measures in the process of disinfection and sterilization on a continuous basis for the various facilities of the airports using sterilizing and cleaning materials approved internationally and in accordance with the highest international standards for occupational safety and health in order to maintain the health of passengers and airport workers.

The minister pointed out that there is effective and continuous coordination with the Ministry of Health and Population through the departments of Quarantine and Preventive Medicine stressing on continuous follow-up within 14 days of date of arrival in Egypt for passengers who arrive Egypt from countries suffering from the virus’s outbreak.

It is worth noting that the Egyptian airports have published posters to raise awareness of the prevention methods and general guidelines for the protection of the coronavirus.
