President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received Tuesday Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development of the DRC Eve Bazaiba Masudi, in the presence of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, according to Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.

The Congolese minister conveyed a message to Sisi from Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi, which included expressing pride in the strategic relations linking Egypt and the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the excellence that these relations have reached, whether at the level of coordination and political consultation, or at the level of economic cooperation, which has witnessed a remarkable boom in recent periods.

The Congolese President also expressed deep appreciation for the tireless Egyptian efforts led by Sisi to advance the African agenda in the context of the issue of climate change, with the aim of supporting the unified African position and working to fully activate the African initiatives put forward, which confirms the unity of the African position and allows achieving the aspirations of the African peoples and taking into account their concerns.

In this regard, he stressed his confidence that the World Climate Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh (COP 27) next November will represent a pivotal step in mobilising the joint international effort to confront climate change, whether with regard to dealing with the negative effects of this phenomenon, or through concrete international efforts to reduce its causes and continue efforts to reduce emissions.

On his part, Sisi conveyed his greetings to his brother, President Tshisekedi, affirming Egypt’s continued support for the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the continuation of providing all possible aspects of assistance to it as a country with which we share historical relations that represent a model of cooperation, coordination and mutual support.

The president also stressed the advanced priority that Egypt attaches to the climate change file at the African and international levels, especially through its upcoming hosting of the Sharm El-Sheikh Summit, which aims to try to reach consensus on controversial issues between developing and developed countries in this regard, which is a continuation of the role that Egypt started from 2015 to 2017.

The meeting witnessed a discussion of prospects for advancing joint African efforts to enhance synergy and solidarity to confront climate change and its negative consequences, thus contributing to placing the continent’s concerns and aspirations in the international arena for climate change negotiations.
