Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, met on Wednesday with Djibouti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdoulkader Houssein Omar, on the sidelines of the fifth meeting of the consultative mechanism for coordinating efforts to promote peace in Sudan. The talks focused on ways to strengthen bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Abdelatty praised the growing momentum in Egyptian–Djiboutian relations and the shared commitment to expanding cooperation across various sectors. He stressed the importance of continued coordination to implement joint projects in energy, infrastructure, and logistics zones, in line with Egypt’s interest in boosting trade ties between the two countries.
He highlighted the opening of Banque Misr Djibouti as a significant step forward and expressed the mutual desire to convene the Egyptian–Djiboutian Business Council at the earliest opportunity to increase trade volumes in a manner that reflects the strategic nature of bilateral relations.
Regarding developments in the Horn of Africa, the two ministers reaffirmed their categorical rejection and condemnation of Israel’s recognition of the so-called Somaliland entity. They stressed their full support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia, rejecting any unilateral actions that could undermine Somali sovereignty or destabilize the country.
Both ministers also emphasized their support for Somalia’s legitimate state institutions and their rejection of any attempts to create parallel entities that threaten national unity. They firmly rejected linking this issue to any plans aimed at displacing the Palestinian people from their land.
In a related context, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s firm position in support of Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, as well as the preservation of its national state institutions.
