Egypt and Djibouti are reinforcing a growing model of developmental integration in the Horn of Africa, following a high-level visit by Kamel El-Wazir, Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, to Djibouti from December 26 to 28, 2025.
The visit included a senior delegation representing Egypt’s public and private sectors, as well as major companies operating in infrastructure, transport, and industrial development, underscoring Cairo’s commitment to deepening economic and strategic cooperation with Djibouti.
Solar Energy Project Highlights Development Partnership
Egypt’s Ambassador to Djibouti, Abdelrahman Raafat, said the Egyptian Embassy coordinated with Djiboutian authorities to inaugurate a solar power station in the village of Omar Jaga in the Arta region, attended by several Djiboutian ministers and senior officials.
Djiboutian officials expressed strong appreciation to Egypt—both government and people—for establishing the solar facility, highlighting its developmental and social impact, including providing electricity for homes and enabling access to essential services such as water supply for local residents.
Port, Logistics, and Infrastructure Cooperation
As part of the visit, the Egyptian delegation conducted field tours of Doraleh Port, the container terminal, and the site of a planned solar power project at the port. The delegation also visited the Djibouti Free Zone and inspected the location designated for the Egyptian logistics zone, which both sides have agreed to establish.
El-Wazir held an expanded meeting with Hassan Hamad Ibrahim, Djibouti’s Minister of Infrastructure and Equipment, and Aboubaker Omar Hadi, Chairman of the Ports and Free Zones Authority, alongside members of the Egyptian delegation.
Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation across key sectors, including ports, renewable energy, infrastructure, roads, logistics, and land and maritime transport. The talks concluded with the signing of several important agreements aimed at advancing bilateral collaboration.
Expanding Trade and Investment Ties
Ambassador Raafat added that El-Wazir also held extensive bilateral meetings with Djiboutian ministers responsible for priority cooperation sectors, as well as an expanded session with chambers of commerce and business leaders from both countries.
These discussions addressed ways to boost bilateral trade, encourage Egyptian investment in Djibouti, and shape the future of economic relations between the two brotherly nations.
The visit reflects Egypt’s broader strategy to strengthen its economic presence in the Horn of Africa, leveraging infrastructure, energy, and logistics partnerships to promote regional stability and sustainable development.
