Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, has urged Japanese travel agencies and tour operators to expand their tourism programs to Egypt.

He emphasized the importance of leveraging recent developments in the country’s tourism sector and infrastructure, as well as the increase in direct flights between Cairo and Tokyo.

Abdelatty's remarks were made during a meeting on Friday, June 5, 2026, as part of Abdelatty’s visit to Japan. He met with Hiroyuki Takahashi, chairman of the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA), and representatives from major Japanese tourism companies.

The discussions focused on strategies to increase the number of Japanese visitors to Egypt and enhance cooperation in the tourism sector. Abdelatty praised JATA for its efforts in promoting Egypt as a tourist destination and noted that the Japanese market is a key focus of Egypt’s tourism strategy.

Furthermore, Abdelatty confirmed Egypt's participation in the 2026 Japan Tourism Fair as part of its initiatives to showcase its tourism offerings. He also highlighted the excitement surrounding the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, describing it as one of the world’s most significant cultural landmarks and a successful example of Egyptian-Japanese collaboration.
