Egypt has announced a new natural gas discovery in the Western Desert after Khalda Petroleum successfully drilled the exploratory well “Gomana-1.”
Electric logging results confirmed the presence of gas-bearing formations, while initial tests showed a production rate of about 36 million cubic feet of gas per day. The company is continuing detailed testing and early reservoir evaluation, with the well expected to be added to the production grid the day after tomorrow.
The new discovery represents a fresh boost to the activities of Apache Corporation, Egypt’s international partner in the Khalda fields, particularly in gas exploration and development alongside crude oil operations.
The announcement comes as the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources rolls out new incentive packages aimed at attracting greater investment in natural gas production within Khalda’s concession areas, supporting Egypt’s broader strategy to increase output and enhance energy security.
