Egypt’s Ambassador to the European Union, Ahmed Abu Zeid, said relations between Cairo and European partners have evolved into a comprehensive strategic partnership, describing Egypt as a “stability oasis” for Europe amid mounting regional and global challenges.
In televised remarks, Abu Zeid said Egypt’s relationship with the European Union has moved beyond traditional cooperation frameworks to a broader alliance based on shared strategic interests. He noted that the partnership now spans political coordination, economic integration, security cooperation, energy, migration, and cultural exchange.
The ambassador stressed that Europe increasingly views Egypt as a key pillar of stability in a turbulent region, citing its geographic position, infrastructure development, and expanding economic role as factors strengthening its standing with European capitals.
Abu Zeid added that the strategic partnership reflects mutual recognition of intertwined interests, particularly in addressing common challenges such as irregular migration, counterterrorism, and regional conflicts. He underscored that cooperation mechanisms have deepened in recent years through high-level visits, economic forums, and structured political dialogue.
The EU remains Egypt’s largest trading partner and a major source of foreign direct investment, he said, pointing to growing European engagement in key sectors of the Egyptian economy.
The remarks come as Cairo and Brussels continue efforts to reinforce long-term cooperation across multiple sectors, signaling a shift toward a more institutionalized and strategic phase in Egypt-Europe relations.
