An Egyptian delegation met with officials from Cyprus’s Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry in the capital Nicosia as part of ongoing coordination to accelerate the implementation of joint natural gas projects agreed between the two countries, Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum said in a statement on Tuesday.
The Egyptian delegation included Mohamed El-Bagouri, Head of the Central Administration for Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Petroleum, and Abeer El-Shorbiny, Head of the Central Administration of the Technical Office. Discussions focused on strengthening strategic cooperation and advancing priority projects, most notably plans to link Cypriot gas fields to Egypt’s energy infrastructure and processing facilities.
The proposed linkage would enable the re-export of Cypriot natural gas through Egypt to European markets, reinforcing Egypt’s role as a regional energy hub and supporting Europe’s efforts to diversify energy supplies.
Both sides stressed the importance of maintaining close technical coordination in the coming phase and agreed to hold regular meetings to monitor progress, in a move aimed at serving mutual interests and enhancing the role of both countries in the regional energy sector.
