Medical sources told local media agencies that Egypt may impose more COVID-19 restrictions soon due to the significant rise in reported daily COVID-19 infections, Sputnik reported on Saturday.

The sources said that Health Minister Dr Hala Zayed highlighted in her report submitted to the Egyptian Cabinet the rise of daily COVID-19 infections in Egypt, and the presence of Delta variant especially among people whose ages under 16 as they are discarded from vaccination rollout.

She also referred to the possibility of seeing more deaths linked to Coronavirus due to Delta's ability to cause severe medical complications to the patients.

In the same context, the sources added that the government is imposing more restrictions inside public spots, governmental institutions, ministries' headquarters, and public transportation, alongside conducting strict campaigns in the streets against residents who don't wear face masks.

Therefore, it is expected that the Supreme Committee for the Management of the Coronavirus Crisis would take more protective measures amid the beginning of the new year to control the rise of Coronavirus infections.

It is worthy to mention that Egypt recorded new 303 COVID-19 cases, in addition to registration new 12 deaths on Thursday.
