Egypt's FM Delivers Speech during Climate Action Session with Group of 77 + China

Sameh Shoukry, Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs, President of the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27), delivered a recorded speech during the climate action session of the Ministerial Conference of the Group of Seventy-seven and China, held in New York on December 15-16.

Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman and director of the Public Diplomacy Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, indicated that Minister Shoukry was keen during his speech to review the results and outputs that emerged from the Sharm El-Sheikh conference that enhance the work of the international climate at various levels, especially the "Sharm El-Sheikh plan to implement commitments Climate" initiative.

This initiative ushered in a new phase of climate action in which the focus is on turning pledges into reality on the ground in addition to establishing - for the first time - a fund for financial losses and damages resulting from climate change and strengthening international efforts to adapt to climate change and mitigate its consequences.

It mobilizes climate financing and maintains global temperature rise rates at 1.5 degrees Celsius, in accordance with the Paris Agreement.

Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs added that what was achieved during the COP27 conference proves the feasibility and effectiveness of multilateral action.

He explains that the Egyptian presidency of the conference was keen to produce tangible and balanced results, despite the many challenges witnessed by the current international context on many levels, on top of which are geopolitical tensions and the global energy and food crises.
