Egypt`s Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly confirmed on Saturday that he inspected the projects that are being implemented in the Sour Mahara El-Ayoun area and Ain El-Sira Lake, to follow up on the executive position of the development work.
Madbouly said: "The development of Islamic Cairo is a great event," noting that all Islamic antiquities are registered with UNESCO. He added that contact has been made with the Supreme Council of Antiquities and UNESCO, and the development has been presented to officials there, who have expressed their willingness to help.
He explained: "Islamic Cairo has been affected during the past half century, and slums have grown in it." He noted that "the 1992 earthquake also affected the region, which led to the movement of residents into the city."
He pointed out that "the government will develop old buildings that were not registered as antiquities of the heritage, and that the Egyptian government will intervene in the destroyed buildings to restore their luster."
