The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed, on Thursday, the continuous follow-up of the incident of the Milan cargo ship, which was kidnapped by pirates off the Nigerian coast, with Egyptian citizens on board.

Assistant Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs Amr Mahmoud Abbas said stated that the ministry is in contact with the families of the kidnapped citizens to reassure and inform them of the latest efforts made to free their relatives.

The Egyptian embassy in Abuja is in contact with the Nigerian security services and the leadership of the naval forces there to take all possible measures to free the kidnapped hostages.

Noteworthy, two Egyptians were on board a Lebanese cargo ship called “Milan-1” that was heading from Nigeria to Cameroon.

The hijacked ship is now in the possession of maritime law enforcement authorities after the pirates abandoned it, and escaped taking with them the kidnapped persons.
