Egypt strongly condemned a terrorist attack targeting Niamey International Airport in Niger, expressing solidarity with the West African nation in its fight against terrorism and extremism.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs denounced the attack "in the strongest terms," saying it had resulted in a number of deaths and injuries.
Egypt reaffirmed its full support for the government and people of Niger in confronting terrorism and all forms of violence and extremism.
The ministry extended its sincere condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the government and people of Niger, and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the attack.
Cairo also stressed its commitment to continuing support for countries in the Sahel region in their efforts to combat terrorism and strengthen security and stability.
The statement comes amid ongoing security challenges facing several countries across the Sahel, where armed groups have carried out a series of attacks in recent years.
