Egypt has strongly condemned what it described as the illegal and unacceptable step taken by the self-declared region of Somaliland to open a purported “embassy” in Jerusalem, calling the move a clear violation of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
In an official statement, the Egyptian government said the action directly undermines the legal and historical status of occupied Jerusalem and constitutes an attempt to impose an unlawful reality in the city.
Cairo reiterated its complete rejection of any unilateral measures aimed at legitimising arrangements that contradict international law and international legitimacy resolutions. Egypt reaffirmed that East Jerusalem remains occupied Palestinian territory since 1967 and stressed that any steps intended to alter its legal or historical status are null and void and carry no legal effect.
Egypt also renewed its full support for the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Somalia, rejecting any unilateral actions that could undermine Somali sovereignty or threaten the unity of its territory.
