Egypt expressed on Wednesday its strong condemnation of the missile attack that targeted yesterday evening the Green Zone in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, leaving dozens of civilians dead and wounded.
“The government and people of Egypt offer to the government and brotherly people of the Republic of Iraq sincere condolences for this abominable incident,” read a statement issued by the Egyptian foreign ministry.
The statement added: “Egypt wishes a speedy recovery for the injured.”
“Cairo stresses once again its complete condemnation of these sinful aggressive practices, calling on all parties to distance Iraq from any conflicts that do not elevate its national interests,” the statement noted.
Egypt also affirms its support for Iraq in all the measures taken to protect its security and national unity.
On Tuesday, a group of missiles fell on the government Green Zone in the center of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
Four rockets fell on the Green Zone while security sources suggested that they were launched from the east of the capital.
The warning sirens of the US embassy went off immediately after the missiles fell, according to media reports.
The Iraqi security forces later stated that the missile attack killed a child and wounded 5 others.
