Egypt expressed its full support for the work of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and all humanitarian and relief organizations operating in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

In a statement, Egypt emphasized the vital importance of the role played by these agencies in providing essential services to Palestine refugees and the civilian population.

In this context, Egypt condemned the Israeli occupation forces' demolition of an UNRWA headquarters in occupied East Jerusalem, considering it a flagrant violation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions, and an unacceptable infringement on the immunity and property of United Nations institutions.

Egypt also expressed its grave concern over the unprecedented harassment and violations these institutions are facing, which hinder their ability to carry out their mandates and negatively impact the delivery of humanitarian aid and services. This constitutes a clear violation of international humanitarian law and the rules protecting UN institutions and humanitarian workers.

Moreover, Egypt stressed that UNRWA plays a pivotal and indispensable role that cannot be replaced or relinquished, as it is the UN entity entrusted with providing educational, health, and relief services to millions of Palestine refugees, adding that any attempts to undermine the Agency’s existence or diminish its role represent a direct assault on the rights of refugees and an attempt to vacate the international community's responsibility toward them.

Furthermore, Egypt affirmed that the existence of UNRWA is intrinsically linked to the Palestinian cause itself and the historical international commitment to the refugee issue, until a just and lasting solution is reached; including ensuring the right of Palestine refugees to return to their homes, in accordance with UN General Assembly Resolution 194 and relevant international legitimacy resolutions.

In addition, Egypt called upon the international community to fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities to ensure the protection of humanitarian institutions and their personnel, to create the necessary conditions for them to perform their work without obstacles, and to prevent any measures that would undermine UNRWA’s role or prejudice its mandate.

Furthermore, Egypt reiterated its full and unwavering support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the right to establish an independent state on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, as the only path to achieving a just and lasting peace in the region.
