Egypt condemned on Thursday the displacement of Palestinians by Israeli occupation forces from the "Sheikh Jarrah" neighborhood in East Jerusalem.
"Egypt is following, with great concern, the violent incidents taking place in the "Sheikh Jarrah" neighborhood in East Jerusalem, during which Palestinian citizens are subjected to provocative practices and attacks that exacerbate tension in Jerusalem city," Ministry of Foreign Affairs' official spokesman Ahmed Hafez said in a statement.
Moreover, Hafez expressed Egypt’s condemnation of all attempts to displace Palestinian families from their homes in the "Sheikh Jarrah" neighborhood, as well as to change the demographic identity of East Jerusalem, stressing that these practices represent a violation of the provisions of the international legitimacy and law.
In this regard, the spokesman underlined the need to provide the necessary protection for the brotherly Palestinian people, as well as the need to stop demolishing homes and confiscating land in the West Bank as well as East Jerusalem.
He also reiterated that the continuation of these unilateral measures undermines the chances of reaching a two-state solution and establishing the desired peace in the region.
