Egypt's Foreign Minister (FM) Sameh Shoukry, and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi signed on Sunday an agreement to establish a joint governmental cooperation committee.
Earlier today, Shoukry and Wang held official talks. They discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between both countries in several fields, as well as a number of regional and international issues of common interest.
On his part, President Abdel-Fattah El Sisi stressed Egypt's firm position to preserve its water security, underlining the need to reach a binding legal agreement on the filling and operation of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) that would achieve the interests of all in a fair manner.
This came during President Sisi's meeting with the Chinese FM, in the presence of Shoukry and the Chinese ambassador to Egypt.
The Chinese top diplomat stressed his country's full understanding of the utmost importance of the Nile River to Egypt, pointing out that China seeks to resolve this issue in a manner that meets the interests of all parties.
It is worth mentioning that, Wang Yi arrived in Cairo on Saturday in an official visit, at the invitation of his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry.
