Egypt has reaffirmed its full support for the work of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and all humanitarian and relief organizations operating in the occupied Palestinian territories, underscoring the vital role these institutions play in providing essential services to Palestinian refugees and civilians.
In an official statement, Egypt strongly condemned the demolition by Israeli occupation forces of a UNRWA facility in occupied East Jerusalem, describing the act as a blatant violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions. Cairo stressed that the attack represents an unacceptable breach of the immunity and protection afforded to United Nations institutions and their properties.
Egypt also expressed deep concern over the increasing restrictions and unprecedented violations targeting humanitarian organizations, warning that such actions severely hinder their ability to deliver aid and basic services. These measures, Egypt said, constitute clear violations of international humanitarian law and the legal frameworks governing the protection of UN institutions and humanitarian personnel.
The statement emphasized that UNRWA plays a central and irreplaceable role as the primary UN body responsible for providing education, healthcare, and humanitarian assistance to millions of Palestinian refugees. Any attempts to undermine the agency’s presence or limit its mandate, Egypt warned, directly threaten refugee rights and represent an effort to absolve the international community of its historical responsibilities toward the Palestinian refugee issue.
