Egypt has stressed the critical importance of reaching an agreement between the US and Iran as quickly as possible, taking into account the concerns of all relevant parties, particularly the countries of the region.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt said such an agreement would help spare the region the risks of escalation, tension, and terrorism, especially in light of the serious security, economic, and geopolitical challenges facing the region and the world in recent months.
Egypt reaffirmed the importance of reaching such an agreement without delay to restore security and stability in the region and address all outstanding issues, including the Iranian nuclear file and freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Egypt noted that this would help bring the conflict to a complete end and restore calm across the region.
In this context, Egypt stressed the need for all parties to respect the principles of international law and the Charter of the UN, particularly respect for state sovereignty, non-interference in the internal affairs of states, the prohibition of the use of force in settling disputes, and the prioritisation of political and diplomatic solutions.
Egypt also underscored the importance of avoiding further escalation and of creating a conducive environment to reach consensual understandings that would help address the region’s other crises, foremost among them the Palestinian issue, which remains at the heart of the conflict.
Egypt called for renewed attention to the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, as well as continued efforts to implement the commitments of the first phase of U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan and the immediate launch of the second phase.
