Egypt called on the U.N. Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on Friday to push for an immediate humanitarian truce and a comprehensive ceasefire in Sudan, according to Al Qahera News.
The appeal comes as fighting between Sudan's rival military factions continues to fuel one of the world's largest humanitarian crises.
Meanwhile, the United Nations warned of "clear indicators" of a new human rights catastrophe in Sudan's North Kordofan state, saying atrocities seen in Zamzam and El Fasher must not be repeated.
The U.N. said civilians in North Kordofan had been living under conditions resembling a siege for the past 18 months, underscoring the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the region.
Sudan has been engulfed in conflict since April 2023, when fighting erupted between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, displacing millions of people and triggering widespread food insecurity and allegations of human rights abuses.
