On Thursday, November 7, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration, Badr Abdelatty, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Cooperation of Burkina Faso, Karamoko Traore, to discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations.

Official Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Ambassador Tameem Khalaf, stated that Abdelatty affirmed Egypt’s support for Burkina Faso in fulfilling the goals of its transitional phase.

The two ministers reviewed the full spectrum of cooperation between their countries, focusing on expanding these ties to new horizons. Abdelatty emphasized the importance of increasing trade between Egypt and Burkina Faso, with Egypt prepared to export goods that meet the Burkinabé market’s needs.

Additionally, he underscored Egypt’s willingness to establish mutually beneficial trade agreements and highlighted the growing presence of Egyptian companies across Africa, particularly in sectors like construction, pharmaceuticals, and power generation, encouraging these companies to explore opportunities in Burkina Faso’s market.

Abdelatty also addressed the rising terrorist threats in the Sahel and Lake Chad regions from extremist groups active in West Africa. He affirmed Egypt’s unwavering support for Burkina Faso’s efforts to combat terrorism and bolster security and stability.

Egypt is committed to strengthening Burkina Faso’s institutional capabilities by training Burkinabé security and police personnel through programs organized by the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister also shared Egypt’s experience in combating terrorism, which has demonstrated that an effective response to terrorism requires a comprehensive, sustained approach, including initiatives to counter extremist ideologies and build national capacities.

The ministers exchanged views on various regional issues of mutual concern, especially in the Sahel and the Horn of Africa. They discussed the latest developments in these regions and their implications for stability efforts across the African continent.
