Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty met Britain’s Minister of State for International Development and Africa, Jenny Chapman, on Tuesday to discuss ways to deepen cooperation in Africa and support stability and development across the continent.

During talks held in London, Abdelatty praised the growing momentum in relations between Egypt and the United Kingdom, stressing the importance of expanding cooperation across political, economic and trade sectors while encouraging increased British investment in Egypt over the coming years.

The Egyptian foreign minister reaffirmed Cairo’s approach to strengthening cooperation and integration with African nations through priority development projects and the sharing of successful national development experiences.

The meeting also addressed the conflict in Sudan, with Abdelatty briefing Chapman on Egypt’s diplomatic efforts within the Quartet mechanism aimed at resolving the crisis.

He affirmed the importance of reaching a humanitarian truce as a step toward a comprehensive ceasefire and the launch of an inclusive political process led and owned by the Sudanese people.

Abdelatty also underscored the need to establish safe humanitarian corridors and ensure the unhindered delivery of aid, while reiterating Egypt’s longstanding support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He reaffirmed Cairo’s rejection of any parallel entities that could undermine Sudan’s national institutions or threaten the cohesion of the state.
