Egypt and Brazil held a consultation session in Cairo, Tuesday, to discuss establishing a logistics center in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) to store and distribute grains.
The session was headed by Sameh Abou el-Enein, Assistant Secretary of State for American Affairs on the Egyptian side, and Carlos Duarte, Assistant Secretary of State for African and Middle Eastern Affairs of Brazil on the Brazilian side.
The bilateral discussions touched on plans to establish a logistics center in SCZone to store and distribute grains in silos, and likewise to establish an Egyptian zone in one of the Brazilian ports, according to a statement issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The two sides appreciated the ongoing efforts to launch the first direct airline linking Egypt and Brazil, due to its important economic, tourism and cultural returns that benefit both parties.
The two parties discussed ways to improve trade exchange between them, which last year amounted to $2.8 billion, in addition to maximizing the benefit from the free trade agreement linking Egypt and Mercosur, led by Brazil.
They also stressed the importance of encouraging mutual investment and exchanging expertise and technology.
During the discussions, Egypt affirmed its aspiration to cooperate with Brazil through the BRICS group, which it recently joined, and to contribute positively to its work. It also welcomed Brazil’s assumption of the presidency of the G20 due to the importance of this forum in discussing global economic issues.
