Waters El-Bahri, an environmental researcher for birds and a natural life, said that the city of Port Fouad was allocated as a natural reserve for the "flamingo" by the Egyptian government, in addition to being the second route for migratory birds.

He noted that the great flamingo is a wintering bird that comes from central and southern Europe to Africa, especially Egypt, where it is found It is located in Lake Bardawil in North Sinai, the Suez Canal region, Lake Qarun, the Natroun Valley and Siwa, and it also comes to the Nuba region in the south of Lake Nuba, beside its own presence in Port Fouad, Port Said Governorate, because of its environmental, historical and economic importance.

The environmental researcher of birds and natural life added that his work as an environmental researcher monitored in 2019 no less than 25,000 large-sized flamingos in Port Fouad Navigation, and some attached birds were identified, which confirm that they are coming from southern France to the Port Fouad Protected Area to spend the warm winter. He added that he had spotted more than 20,000 large flamingos in the Milaha area east of Tariffa in the fall of 2007.
