Egypt’s Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh El-Hefny held talks with Belgian Ambassador to Egypt Bart De Groof on expanding passenger and cargo flights between the two countries and boosting cooperation in the aviation sector.

The meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters in Cairo, focused on strengthening air connectivity to support tourism, trade and future investment partnerships between Egypt and Belgium.

El-Hefny said Egypt was keen to deepen partnerships with European countries and expand its air transport network, citing the country’s strategic position as a regional hub for aviation, logistics, technical services and air cargo.

The minister also reviewed ongoing efforts to modernise the aviation sector through infrastructure expansion and operational upgrades in line with international standards, alongside plans to attract more private investment in airport management and development.

He said Hurghada International Airport represents the first phase of the government’s airport offerings programme implemented in cooperation with the International Finance Corporation. He also highlighted expansion projects currently under way, including Terminal 4 at Cairo International Airport.

For his part, De Groof praised the progress achieved in Egypt’s civil aviation sector and said Belgium was interested in exploring investment opportunities in the industry, reflecting confidence in its growth potential.

Both sides agreed to continue coordination in the coming period to support cooperation in air transport and aviation services.
