Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Mohamed Farid Saleh held talks with officials at the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE) in Minsk to discuss mechanisms for cooperation and potential integration between the Egyptian Mercantile Exchange and its Belarusian counterpart.

The meeting came as part of the minister’s official visit to Belarus, where he is leading the Egyptian delegation in the Egyptian-Belarusian Joint Committee meetings aimed at strengthening bilateral economic and trade relations.

During discussions with Alexander Osmolovsky and senior exchange officials, both sides explored ways to enhance coordination, technical cooperation, and the exchange of expertise between the two mercantile exchanges.

The Belarusian side presented the operational framework of BUCE, regarded as one of Eastern Europe’s largest mercantile exchanges, highlighting its role in organizing commodity trading and supporting regional commerce.

Officials also showcased the exchange’s electronic trading systems and technical services, which Egyptian representatives viewed as a potential model for enhancing the infrastructure and technological capabilities of the Egyptian Mercantile Exchange.

Minister Mohamed Farid said the discussions align with Egypt’s broader strategy to deepen economic cooperation with Belarus and benefit from advanced expertise in digital trading technologies and electronic marketplace management.

He noted that talks covered institutional cooperation between the two exchanges, including the exchange of technical knowledge, commodity market data, and best practices in operating and managing trading platforms.

According to the minister, the discussions also addressed ways to strengthen communication channels between the business communities of both countries and create the institutional and technical frameworks needed to facilitate future trade and commodity exchange flows.

Farid emphasized the importance of leveraging Belarusian experience in developing advanced electronic trading systems, stressing Egypt’s commitment to supporting technical cooperation, capacity building, and knowledge transfer as part of efforts to modernize the country’s mercantile trading ecosystem.

For his part, Alexander Osmolovsky expressed Belarus’s interest in establishing a strong and sustainable partnership with Egypt, affirming the exchange’s readiness to share technological and technical expertise, particularly in electronic trading and digital platform development.

He added that closer cooperation could serve as a significant step toward strengthening economic and commercial ties between the two countries, especially given Egypt’s logistical and geographic advantages that position it as a potential regional hub for trade and re-export activities.
