Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty discussed ways to strengthen joint African action and enhance coordination on regional and continental issues during a phone call on Tuesday with Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, chairperson of the African Union Commission.

During the call, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's support for the AU Commission's role in advancing continental integration and promoting peace, security and sustainable development across Africa.

He stressed Cairo's commitment to maintaining close coordination with the Commission on political, economic and health issues of mutual interest, saying Egypt remains firmly committed to supporting African Union institutions.

Abdelatty said stronger cooperation would help consolidate peace, security and stability across the continent, support post-conflict reconstruction and development efforts, and advance the goals of the Agenda 2063.

The two officials also exchanged views on several regional and continental issues, focusing on the latest developments in Sudan, Somalia and the Horn of Africa.

Abdelatty underscored the importance of supporting national state institutions and preserving the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries across the region. He also rejected unilateral actions that could undermine state sovereignty or weaken the foundations of regional stability.

In turn, Youssouf praised Egypt's prominent role within the African Union and its continued efforts to support African causes and defend the continent's interests.

He reaffirmed the Commission's commitment to maintaining close coordination and consultations with Egypt to promote peace, security, stability and sustainable development across Africa.
