Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdelatty met with a delegation from the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce to enhance economic and trade relations with Brazil, Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Tamam Khallaf said on Monday.

Abdelatty expressed Egypt's gratitude for the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce's decision to establish its regional office in Cairo, which commenced operations in September 2022.

He acknowledged the office's contribution to facilitating trade between Egypt, Brazil, and other Latin American nations, as well as its role in boosting Egyptian exports to Brazil.

The Egyptian Minister reviewed the bilateral relations between Egypt and Brazil, particularly following Brazilian President Lula da Silva's visit to Egypt in February 2024, during which both nations agreed to elevate their relationship to a "strategic partnership."

Abdelatty also emphasized the importance of his recent discussions with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira at the BRICS summit in Russia.

The official spokesman noted that the Minister of Foreign Affairs underscored the Ministry's commitment to fostering investment, trade, and the national economy.

He elaborated on the Egyptian government's initiatives to attract foreign direct investment and expressed a desire to strengthen economic and trade ties with Brazil, which stands as Egypt's primary trading partner in Latin America.

Furthermore, the minister highlighted the necessity of increasing trade volume in the near future to reflect the strong relations between the two countries and to maximize the advantages of the free trade agreement between Egypt and the Mercosur nations (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay).

Minister Abdelatty also pointed out the significant role of the Chamber of Commerce and the potential for expanding cooperation into sectors such as renewable energy, green hydrogen, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, livestock, and tourism.
