Egyptian Health Minister Hala Zayed announced on Friday the success of the experiment of injecting blood plasma from recovered coronavirus into the positive cases.

The trial had shown promising initial results with critical COVID-19 cases at the Health Ministry's hospitals, Zayed stated, noting the experiment reduced the patients' need for ventilators and increased the number of recovered cases.

The minister called on those who recovered to head for the nearest blood donation centers to donate plasma after 14 days from recovery, saying there are five centers nationwide in Agouza, Giza, Alexandria, Luxor, Tanta, and El Minya.

Meanwhile, Khaled Megahed, the ministry's spokesman, pointed to some conditions for donors, including being between 18 and 60 years old and weighing over 50 kilograms.

The donors also should prove that they tested negative twice later after being positive and don't have any chronic heart or chest diseases.

On Thursday, Egypt registered 1,152 new coronavirus cases, raising the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak in Egypt to 29,767. The death toll went up to 1,126.
