Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta announced Sunday that the crescent moon marking the start of Sha‘ban 1447 A.H. was not legally sighted after sunset on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2026, corresponding to 29 Rajab 1447 A.H.
In a statement, the country’s official authority for Islamic rulings said its legal and scientific committees, deployed across the republic, conducted the observation but did not confirm a valid sighting of the crescent.
Accordingly, Dar al-Ifta declared that Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, will complete the month of Rajab, and that Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026, will mark the first day of Sha‘ban 1447 A.H.
The authority concluded by offering prayers for blessings in the month of Sha‘ban and for reaching the holy month of Ramadan.
