Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdelatty, met on Saturday, 20 June, with Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mohieddin Salem, as part of ongoing consultation and coordination between the two neighbouring countries.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Tamim Khallaf said the meeting reflected the deep historical and brotherly relations between Egypt and Sudan.
The two ministers stressed their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation across various fields in a way that serves the common interests of both countries and their peoples.
During the meeting, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s firm support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity and national institutions. He also reiterated Cairo’s rejection of the creation of any parallel entities in Sudan.
The Egyptian foreign minister stressed the importance of reaching a humanitarian truce that could pave the way for a sustainable ceasefire and the resumption of the political process.
He also called for ensuring humanitarian access to affected areas, respecting Sudanese ownership of the political solution, and supporting the efforts of the international quartet to help restore stability and end the conflict.
For his part, Salem expressed Sudan’s appreciation for Egypt’s support at various levels, praising Cairo’s positions in support of Sudan’s unity and stability.
The Sudanese minister also reviewed his government’s efforts to deal with the current challenges facing the country.
He stressed Sudan’s keenness to continue coordination and consultation with Egypt during the coming period in a way that serves the interests of both countries and their peoples.
