Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs held a phone call with his Somali counterpart to discuss the latest developments in Somalia and ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
During the call, Egypt reaffirmed its full support for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, stressing the importance of preserving national institutions and rejecting any unilateral actions that could undermine the country’s stability.
The Egyptian side also expressed strong opposition to any steps that violate international law or challenge Somalia’s territorial unity, emphasizing the need to respect the principles of the United Nations Charter and the African Union framework.
Cairo highlighted the growing momentum in relations between the two nations, underlining its commitment to expanding political, security, and capacity-building support. This includes ongoing training programmes provided by Egyptian national institutions, aimed at strengthening Somalia’s state capabilities.
Egypt further stressed the importance of securing sustainable funding for the African Union mission in Somalia, enabling it to effectively carry out its role in supporting stability and security across the country.
For his part, Somalia’s foreign minister briefed Egypt on the latest internal developments and efforts by the Somali government to enhance security, strengthen state institutions, and maintain stability. He also expressed appreciation for Egypt’s continued support and reaffirmed his country’s commitment to deepening cooperation in a way that serves the interests of both nations and contributes to stability in the Horn of Africa.
