Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a telephone call with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud to discuss bilateral relations and the latest regional developments.
The two ministers welcomed the continued momentum in Egyptian-Saudi relations across several sectors, supported by the political leadership of both countries.
They affirmed their shared commitment to expanding cooperation and coordination in a way that serves the interests of the Egyptian and Saudi peoples.
The call addressed the latest regional escalation, with both ministers renewing their condemnation of repeated Iranian attacks targeting several Arab countries, including Gulf states and Jordan.
They said the attacks represented a clear violation of national sovereignty and posed a serious threat to regional security and stability.
Abdelatty and Prince Faisal called for an immediate end to all escalatory actions that could widen the conflict and push the region towards further instability.
The ministers also agreed on the importance of protecting freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law.
They stressed the need to guarantee the safety of international shipping, prevent disruption to maritime traffic and reject attempts to restrict passage through international waterways.
They warned that any disruption in the Strait of Hormuz could have serious consequences for the global economy and international energy security.
The discussion also covered regional efforts to reduce tensions and the role of the four-party mechanism comprising Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan.
The ministers described the mechanism as an important platform for consultation, coordination and efforts to contain regional tensions.
They also exchanged views on developments in Sudan, Libya and the Red Sea, stressing the importance of continued coordination between Cairo and Riyadh on regional issues of mutual concern.
